Crocheted Diagonal Eyelet Top-Free Pattern

This easy to crochet Eyelet Top is perfect for summer. Light and airy it is the perfect addition to any summer wardrobe. What makes this pattern even more special is that the instructions include plus sizes!!

The free pattern is courtesy of Lion Brand yarns and comes in 3 sizes – S/M, L/1X and 2X/3X.

UPDATE: Unfortunately, ZZ Twist yarn has been discontinued. As a substitute for ZZ Twist Lion Brand recommends Mandala Ombre or Ice Cream Cotton Blend. Personally, because I found this top quite large, I would go down one size weight and use Truboo.

Make this cute eyelet top your favorite summer go-to. It would also make a fabulous gift for Mom on Mother’s Day! This top is created with ZZ Twist yarn which is a lightweight Size 4 premium acrylic, that is spun with a ‘’Z’’ twist: the same direction as the yarn wraps around a crocheter’s hook. Loved by bloggers and designers, ‘’Z twist’’ yarns allow crocheters ease of use, tighter stitches and great stitch definition. The excellent drape and modern construction makes it great in creating lightweight shawls, garments and blankets.

  1. Hi Nana, visiting from the Handmade Otherwise party where I saw your link and had to pop over to take a closer look. So pretty – love the diagonal eyelets! Pinned to my Knit/Crochet Ideas board 🙂

    1. I am sorry you are having trouble. I do not know of a correction. I have had lots of people download this without any comments. I am starting mine next month. (the yarn is in my stash). If you would like to email me with the exact problem you are having, I can try it for myself and let you know. nanak@whatsnanamaking.com. Happy hooking!!

  2. I too am having issues with the shoulder stitches. When first creating the shoulders. Is there a video that can show us how to do this part?

    1. Casse,
I just finished making these and had no problems? Can you describe the exact problem or send me an email to nanak@whatsnanamaking.com. I am going to be publishing a post on my experience making this and would love to include a tutorial on this part. Thanks.

  3. It’s the shoulder stitches particularly for the left. I think I just have the RS and WS confused. I am going to try again in a bit. I think a video tutorial site the shoulders would be very beneficial.

    1. Charlotte,
I tested the link and download and it is working just fine. Scroll down the post until you see a large “GET PATTERN HERE” in pink. Click on this and it will take to the download. Once there, you will need to scroll past the items for sale. Just below the “Add all to cart” you will see a button “DOWNLOAD FREE PATTERN”. If you click on this, it will take you to a PDF of the pattern. If you have done this, it could be your computer blocking the download which unfortunately, I cannot help with. GOOD LUCK. This is the most clicked pattern on my site. I have made myself one and I love it!

  4. I don’t think the patter is correct – the problems really start with the shoulders on the back and the doing the front to ROW 46 – then all hell breaks loose. Will not bother re-doing a supposed tried and true tested pattern to make it work. Tried it twice and its screwed up. I’m an experiened crocheter to that’s not the problem.

  5. I like this pattern and would like to make it longer. Any advice you could give me on the best place to increase rows would be great! I am an experienced crocheter, but have never tried design or altering patterns. Thank you.

    1. It’s been a while since I made this. I would simply add rows keeping the pattern going – no increases. It is easy to get the rhythm of the pattern. It is a 10 row repeat. Perhaps repeat row 2-11 one more time. Would that be too long? It is a fabulous pattern!! I love my sweater.
