This year llamas are popping up everywhere. There are llama cookies and cupcake toppers, llama pillows and plant holders, llama snow globes, llama rugs, llama tea towels, llama wine charms, llama oven mitts, llama chip clips, llama pajamas, llama notebooks, llama cheese knives and more. And why? They are silly and weird and we just love silly and weird!!
Designed by Nancy Anderson for Redheart yarns, intermediate crocheters will enjoy learning how to crochet the “fur stitch” when making this toy. Full instructions include how to make a magic ring, how to make the tassels and how to crochet “fur”. The finished crocheted llama measures approximately 14 inches high and 11 inches long (not including the tail).
The pattern recommends RedHeart With Love Yarn. Red Heart With Love yarn is an ultra-soft premium acrylic worsted weight (Size 4) yarn. It comes in a variety of colors and the solid colors have no dye-lot meaning all skeins of a solid color will match.
To make the crocheted llama you will need the following supplies:
- 3 skein of RED HEART With Love yarn or equivalent Size 4 yarn in white.
- 1 skein each of 4 different colors for blanket, halter and tassels.
- Small amount of black yarn for embroidering
- F-5 (3.75 mm) and a L-11 (8 mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
- Two 15mm safety eyes
- Stuffing
