Did you see Katy Perry’s crocheted dress last month on American Idol?
Designed by Ashish Gupta, this bold black mini dress is defined by crochet-style patterns echoing a blanket made by his grandmother. You can purchase the dress HERE. Even at 50% off the price tag is over $1000. Or you can make it for $50-75.00 depending on size required.

This sexy long sleeve dress pattern is very trendy and easy to crochet. Throw a wide collar shirt under this dress and voila, you have the Katy Perry look!
The pattern comes from the book Knitting It Old School, where you’ll find patterns for knitting and crocheting everything from cheeky hot pants to his-and-hers sweater sets, all drawn from the fashion trends of the ’40s, ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s.
Sizing the Katy Perry crocheted dress is as simple as adding and subtracting squares, so adjusting the fit and length is a breeze. Lucky for us, yarn comes in a dizzying array of colors, so the possibilities are endless. No two granny squares on this version share the same color combination, so the sky’s the limit!
The pattern uses DK (Size 3) Tahki cotton yarn. I had a little trouble finding this yarn outside of the U.K. but managed to find some substitutes including Lion Brand Coboo and Paintbox Cotton DK. Be sure to check your gauge!!
