The Granny Square clutch is a great Scrapbuster project. Perfectly sized to take with you to a concert, festival, or anywhere really.
The foundation of this clutch is a granny square. You can crochet your granny square as big or small as you want your clutch to be.

Designed by Luciana Caro for Fair Isle Yarns, the finished Granny Square Clutch is approximately 9″ wide x 5″tall. Your clutch may turn out bigger or smaller depending on the type of yarn used and hook you use.
The clutch that is pictured was created using Sutton by Fair Isle Bulky (Size 5) which is no longer available. A great option is Paintbox Yarns Chunky Pots. You can use any size yarn, match your hook to the size of the yarn and crochet your granny square to the size you desire for your clutch.
If you intend to carry small items in your clutch, the pattern includes instructions to add an optional lining. Add a strap and make it a cross-over bag.
To make the Granny Square clutch you will need the following supplies:
- Bulky weight yarn (or search your scraps for your favorite colors)
- Crochet hook: J/10 – (6 mm) or whatever size you need for your yarn
- One button
- Yarn needle
- If you plan to add lining, you will also need fabric, sewing needle and sewing thread in a matching color (optional)
This pattern uses the classic granny square. If you need help learning to crochet a granny square, Nana published a tutorial and video in her Learn to Crochet series.
Get creative and try making it with any one of the variations of the granny square. For inspiration, see Nana’s Pinterest Board “Granny Squares“.
