Nana has been looking for a rug pattern to make for my new bathroom and kitchen. She found two – one to crochet and one to quilt. Today it’s all about the crocheted rug. (Quilters- watch for yours on Wednesday!)
Handmade rugs are so cool because they are unique, one of a kind, made by you to be exactly what you are looking for. And this crocheted rug is quick and easy to make!

This rug was designed by Brooke Cassell. The pattern is very flexible and can be changed up depending on how big you want your rug and how tight/loose you crochet.
Easy to make by single crocheting in a spiral. Brooke even includes instructions on keeping the rug flat and avoiding and/or correcting the dreaded ruffling and cupping.
The rug pictured was made using Bernat Blanket Yarn. A luxurious, soft and cozy yarn, Bernat Blanket is a chenille-style yarn that’s perfect for home décor projects. From blankets, to crochet baskets, this yarn is ideal for a wide range of projects. Its super bulky (Size 6) weight stitches up quickly, making it a great choice for afghans and blankets. The yarn is available in a wide range of solid and variegate shades to compliment your home décor and comes in an economical big ball size for larger projects.
If you prefer more unique shades, Bernat Blanket yarn comes in a variety of collections such as Bernat Ombre, Bernat Coastal, Baby Stripes, and more. Bernat Blanket is machine washable and dryable.
The rug is crocheted holding two strands of yarn together, making it denser to hold it’s shape as a rug rather than a blanket.
To make this Crocheted rug approx 48 inches in diameter, you will need the following supplies:
- 6 (300g/10.5 oz) balls of Bernat Blanket or equivalent Size 6 yarn for body
- 1 (300g/10.5 oz) ball of solid colored yarn for edging
- M/13 (9mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
