Intermediate crocheters will love this pattern designed by Marilyn Losee for Caron yarns. The finished throw measures approximately 62″ x 68″. Easy to adjust the size simply by adding more spirals to the length or rows to the width.
The pattern uses Caron One-Pound yarn. This machine washable and dryable worsted weight (Size 4) yarn comes in over 40 different shades and is available in an economical one pound skein. The one-pound size is equivalent to 2-3 skeins of other Size 4 yarns. If you plan to use a substitute yarn, get helpful hints from Nana on how to successfully substitute yarns in this post.
Two-color Spirals are worked individually, then sewn together into panels. Edging is worked around each panel, along sides of each panel, then panels are joined and the final edging is worked.
To make the spirals throw, you will need the following supplies:
- 2 balls each of two colors of Caron One Pound or equivalent Size 4 yarn. If substituting take care as the Caron One pound is an extra large ball of yarn.
- US J/10 (6.0mm) crochet hook
- US K/10-1/2 (6.5 mm) crochet hook
- yarn needle
- stitch markers

Have you made this blanket? I’m having difficulty joining spirals to make a panel. Directions are not clear.
Roseanne,
I have not yet made this throw. The pattern uses a reverse single crochet to join the spiral panels. With wrong sides (WS) together, you would simply pick up the stitches evenly across the panel. If you normally join your stitching with a favorite stitch, I would think that you could use any stitch to join the panels.
Hope this helps

I’m have a problem making the panel after I attach the spirals.
So, you have made the spirals and sewn them together? After this, you need to add the panel edging. You will start in a corner and work along the long side first. You are going to make the corner first so when you come back around, you will slip stitch into this corner to start the next round. The pattern describes where to make your stitches along the sides. Good luck and let me know if you still have problems.

I’ve made this throw twice, each time to give as a baby shower keepsake gift. I made one just like the picture and one using graduated color of lavender to purple. Turns out very beautiful.
Thank you so much for sharing. I am glad you love the pattern!!
hello, can you help me with assembling the throw? I cant seem to get the panel edging right and i’m confused with the pattern.
Hello Alana,
The panels are put together using a reverse single crochet. The instructions say to place 2 panels together, with the wrong sides facing each other. This means the right side would be facing the top and bottom and the wrong sides would be together. Match the stitches along one long side. As both panels should be the same, the stiches/rows should match.
Using larger hook and Color B, work 1 row of reverse single crochet through both panels, joining them. It may be helpful to lay the panels out on the floor or bed to align the two panels and pin every so often.
Let me know if you have more questions. Happy hooking!

Is there a tutorial on this blanket the directions are not very clear.
Do two spirals equal a panel & then you start panel edging? Where do you start panel edging? Top, bottom, middle or near join of the spirals, the stitch count doesn’t work and it doesn’t say when to start next corner, any clarification would be appreciated.
There is no tutorial but I have answered your question before in the comment string. The pattern has 7 panels with 14 spirals each. These panels are then joined together using a reverse crochet stitch. When joining, you will start in a corner and work along the long side first. You are going to make the corner first so when you come back around, you will slip stitch into this corner to start the next round. The pattern describes where to make your stitches along the sides. As both panels should be the same, the stiches/rows should match.
Good luck

Thank you
Hi, Could use some stitch placement help. I’m starting the panel edge and it’s unclear where to place the first stitch. From there I can take it but it’s confusing when you say join with slip stitch in corner of end spiral (approx 2 stitches from join). What? That doesn’t tell you where to place the stitch. Once I know where to place the stitch I can take it from there. It would be helpful if you had videos or photos showing stitch placement. Thank you
This is not my pattern, but I would like to help. Have you read the responses to the previous comments about the edging. If you are still having problems, Could you tell me where in the pattern you are referring to?
