The Shopper’s Fancy Tote is a quilt-it-yourself cloth tote that you can use for shopping and travel. It is large, it is pretty and it has lots of pockets. Use it for round-the-town shopping or as a roomy carry-on for your travel essentials.

Double-faced, quilted fabric is the backdrop for contrasting divided pockets and the bottom panel on the outside of this pretty tote. Inside, you’ll find a zipped security pocket. The Shopper’s Fancy Tote is extra large measuring approximately 17″ high, 15″ wide, and the three outer pockets are 10″ high. Inside you will find another pocket to safely hold your small items.
To make the Shopper’s Fancy Tote, you will need the following supplies:
- 5/8 yard of double-faced, quilted fabric OR if you want to make your own quilted fabric purchase 5/8 yard each of two coordinating fabrics and a 24” x 44” piece of thin batting.
- 1 yard of a contrasting print (unquilted) for the outer, divided and inner zipped pockets and the upper-edge
- 5/8 yard of a contrasting print (unquilted) for the tote bottom, straps, and binding
- 1-1/2 yards of 1”-wide belt stiffener or waistband interfacing for the straps (or make your own)
- 1-3/4 yards of 1/4”-wide strips of fusible web
- 7”-long nylon or polyester coil zipper, for the inside pocket
- Size 100 Jeans sewing machine needle
- Optional: 1 yard contrasting narrow piping to trim the edges
When making this bag, make sure to cut very accurate pieces and seams. Also, be sure to have a VERY STRONG machine needle as you’ll need it!
