The pattern uses two strands of Bernat Super Value worsted weight (Size 4) yarn. Nana had trouble finding a bright red in this yarn, but remember you can substitute any Size 4 yarn in this pattern.

Using two strands of yarn makes the bag extremely sturdy and the single crochet stitches fill in so nicely with no holes and less stretching. Sarah provides tips on how to crochet with two strands.

        1. Scroll down to the bottom of our post to the large pink “GET PATTERN HERE”. Click the link and it will take you to the pattern page. On this page, find the picture of the snowman tote. The material list is just above the picture and the pattern starts just below this picture. The Santa pattern starts just below the Santa picture. The gingerbread tote can be found when you click the link on the pattern page – you will find it HERE – https://www.repeatcrafterme.com/2020/07/crochet-gingerbread-tote-bag.html
Please advise if you continue to have problems.

  1. Great pattern. I use the same steps to do a Christmas stocking starting at the bottom of the stocking…super easy and no shaping required.

  2. when you join in first single crochet and chain 1, do you do a single crochet in the same stitch as joined?? I cant get the count right at the end. I always have 2 extgra stitches.

    1. Paula,
The only thing I can suggest is using a lighter weight yarn or smaller hook. The pattern uses two strands of Size 4 yarn. One strand and a smaller hook should result in a smaller bag. Check your gauge. Hope this helps!!
