Today I felt the chill in the air reminding me that summer is almost over. As August fades into September, my thoughts are turning to cozy clothes that will keep us warm. One of my favorites is the classic hooded cardigan.

Designed by Vladimir Teriokhin for Lion Brand Yarns, this beginner pattern comes in three sizes – small/medium, large, and 1X/2X. The cardigan is worked in 3 pieces (body and 2 sleeves) and the hood is worked directly onto the neck edge of cardigan. The pattern includes instructions for crocheted buttons but feel free to use purchased buttons if you prefer.
This pattern uses Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca Yarn. Touch of Alpaca is a soft, silky, Size 4 acrylic yarn that has just a touch (10%) of Alpaca. Alpaca is similar to sheep’s wool but warmer, softer, and hypoallergenic. This blend offers the top qualities of alpaca combined with the durability and washability of acrylic.

To make the Hooded Cardigan, you will need the following supplies:
- 6 balls of Lion Brand Touch of Alpaca or equivalent Size 4 yarn for Size S/M, 7 balls for size large and 8 balls for size 1X/2X
- U.S. size H-8 (5 mm) crochet hook
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle
- 4 buttons (optional) – the pattern includes instructions to make your own!
