This pattern was written by Lucy O’Regan for Red Heart Yarns and is rated easy for beginners. The finished blanket will measure approximately 48″ [122 cm] square. This completely modern granny throw features 2 sizes of crochet squares to keep you engaged as you work. The designer used 11 separate colors of Red Heart With Love yarn. Unfortunately this yarn has been discontinued but you can replace with any premium acrylic worsted weight (Size 4) yarn. One of Nana’s favorites is Paintbox Simply DK or Paintbox Simply Aran. Both come in over 60 gorgeous shades. Aran weight yarn is slightly thicker than DK and will make your blanket slightly larger. Because size is not an issue gauge is not as important with this project. Simply be sure that you small squares are half the size of the large ones. For example, if your small squares are 5×5, your large squares should be 10×10.
To make the statement blanket, you will need the following supplies:
- Various colors of your favorite Size 4 yarn. Be sure to have at least one ball of the colors you choose for your border.
- Size U.S. I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook
