I really wish I had found this pattern for Mother’s Day but I will be making this Crafter Granny for my big sister’s birthday!! This cute little granny holds all your sewing supplies while she smiles at you from her shelf.
Her hair bun becomes a pincushion, and her apron has many pockets where you can put your threads, scissors, rulers, and more.

The pattern for the Crafter Granny was designed by Kathrin Vollrath from Zhaya / Zhaya Designs When you arrive at her website if you ask Google to translate, you will see her index of patterns in English.
These dolls are approximately 12 inches high depending on the yarn you use to create them. There are tons of ideas on how to decorate your granny in Zhaya’s photo gallery. Keep scrolling – All the images in this post are from the gallery!!
Don’t let the words Amigurumi scare you. The word amigurumi is a combination of two Japanese words: “ami”, meaning crocheted or knitted, and “nuigurumi” for stuffed doll. If you can crochet in a spiral, you can crochet Amigurumi. The only difference is that when crocheting Amigurumis you should use a much smaller hook size than recommended for the yarn so that no holes are created during the stuffing.
To make a Crafter Granny you will need the following supplies:
- Sport weight (Size 3) yarn – cotton works best as it stretches less (see below). You will need one skein for the head/body, one skein for the dress, one skein for the apron, and small amounts for the hair and added trims/details.
- Size B or C (2.0 – 2.5mm) crochet hook
- Stuffing
- Cardboard or plastic
- Stones, rice or suitable weighting materials
- Eyes of suitable size (approximately 9 mm)
When you first crochet your favorite amigurumi characters, it helps if you have tons of different colors in your stash! Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK has 60 fabulous shades, DMC Natura Just Cotton is a fingering weight cotton with 74 shades and Schachenmayr Catania offers 82 shades. As you build up stocks of color, you’ll have all the shades you need for your favorite little ami friends! A selection of hooks is also an essential. Most amigurumi patterns call for small sized hooks: 2mm, 2.5mm, 3mm, 3.5mm and 4mm to create dense fabrics. Stitch markers are also super helpful for color changes and keeping track of where you are.
I would love to see your version of this doll. Feel free to leave comments below and don’t forget to share!!
