These four cute and cuddly animal wreaths were designed by Zhaya Designs. Nana had experience making one of her designs and I can honestly say that the instructions are very detailed and easy to follow.

Amigurumi is fun and easy . There are no fancy stitches so if you can single crochet, you can make an amigurumi animal. The only difference is you will be using a smaller hook to keep your work tight so no holes are created when you stuff. If you are afraid, please read Nana’s post for tips and tricks that will inspire you to try. Gorgeous creations are waiting to be hooked by you!!

The yarn and hook sizes indicated in the pattern are only suggestions. What is great about amigurumi is there really is no gauge. If you want to achieve a smaller animal, use thinner yarn and a smaller hook. Larger yarn and hooks will produce larger animals.

Nana recommends using cotton yarns because it stretches less making it perfect for stuffing. Suggested yarns to try would be Paintbox Yarns Cotton  comes is both DK and worsted weights Lion Brand 24/7 is a heavier worsted weight yarn,  DMC Natura Just Cotton is a fingering weight thinner cotton. If you want a softer animal, acrylics will also work well. Lion Brand Feel Like Butta and Red Heart Soft are great choices.

To make one of these wreath animals, you will need the following supplies:

  • Yarn, of course, in the main color of your animal.
  • Crochet hook in size for your chosen yarn. Use the smallest hook you are able to avoid holes.
  • Stuffing
  • Small amounts of scrap yarn for the noses and paws
  • Safety eyes in suitable size (12 – 15 mm is usually a good choice). I get ALL my eyes from the Eye Lady!!
  • Yarn needle
  • 12 inch (30cm) wreath

  1. I made this wreath last year and I loved it ! I’m making it again for a friend. I would like to know what butterfly pattern did you use?

    1. Loretta,
Sorry, but I didn’t make the bunny. I made another of Zhaya’s designs. I have some cute little silk butterflies that I found at Dollarama to attach if that helps you.
