The pattern was designed by Susan Terpin for Connecting Threads. It is written for sizes 2T/3T and 4T/5T and includes tips for working with laminate fabric. Unfortunately, Connecting Threads no longer sells this vinyl fabric but you can find tons of choices on ETSY!!

toddler raincoat - fabric suggestion

Laminate fabric that has a matte finish makes for easy sewing and very little sticking, compared to glossy laminates.

To make the toddler raincoat you will need the following supplies:

  • 2-1/2 yards [2-3/4 yds for Size 4 and 5] of laminate fabric for main color
  • 2-1/2 yards [2-3/4 for Size 4 and 5] yds of coordinating fabric for lining (My personal choice would be to use flannel or a light fleece)
  • 1/4 yard of laminate for trim.
  • Four large snaps

Your child will love this raincoat and I would LOVE to see your creation. Check out our pattern index for more FREE patterns.

  1. Hi I cannot figure out this pattern for the toddler rain coat I printed the pattern three times and can’t put it together can you help

  2. Hi, I cannot figure out how to sew the hood. I did step 8 but I’m not sure how to get from step 8 to step 9. Can someone explain how?

    1. Step 8 is sewing of the hood. The diagram shows a dotted line where to sew. Once the hood has been stitched, Step 9 shows how to fold it so it will be ready for sewing in Step 10. I suggest that you move on to Step 10. It may make more sense when you are placing the hood onto the jacket. Good luck.
