Girl’s Beach Cover-up – Free Crochet Pattern

Last week, we featured a Beach Cover-up for Mom, why not make one for your favorite girl! Crochet a rainbow-colored girl’s beach cover-up to wear over a bathing suit for fun days at the beach or pool. She’ll want to wear at as a poncho or tunic, as well!

Designed by Heather Lodinsky for Red Heart Yarn, this easy-to-fit pattern is written for girls sized 2 to 8 years.

The cover -up is easy to make as it is worked in one piece from side to side, then folded at the shoulders and sewn along the sides. Add the drawstring cords complete with tassels and TADA you have this stylish rainbow colored cover-up perfect for the warm summer fun!

The pattern recommends using Red Heart It’s a Wrap Rainbow yarn. This yarn is a super soft and drapey acrylic and cotton blend which is available in 8 different colors. The cover-up pictured was made using “Fiesta”. This is the same yarn featured in our Fiesta Poncho (also for Mom).

To make this Girl’s Beach Cover-up you will need the following supplies:

  • 2 balls for sizes 2 and 4 and 3 balls for sizes 6 and 8 of RED HEART It’s A Wrap Rainbow yarn or equivalent Size 2 yarns.
  • Size G/6 (4mm) Crochet Hook
  • 5″ (13cm) square of cardboard
  • stitch markers,
