Welcome to Nana’s Table Runner of the Month project. On the first Wednesday of each month, Nana will post a FREE seasonal table runner pattern. The pattern for March is this lovely zig-zag table runner designed by Pat Sloan.
A table runner is an excellent way to dress up your home for the season and Nana will bring you a FREE pattern that will be perfect for every gathering area and every season!

This zig zag table runner pattern is so versatile because you can use it to create a table runner for every season and every occasion simply by changing the fabrics. It would also be a great scrap-buster!!
The table runner pattern was designed by Pat Sloan and will measure approximately 16″ x 40″ when complete.
I first saw this runner made up in springtime fabrics and thought it would be perfect for Easter. The Easter Egg Hunt fabric collection by Riley Blake would be perfect choice for spring.
The zig-zag design is created using half square triangles (HST). If you need help on how to make HST’s quickly and easily, see Nana’s post HERE.
Here is Pat’s Halloween version of the table runner. The fabric choices make all the difference!
To make this table runner, you will need twenty light colored 5 inch squares of fabric and twenty dark colored 5 inch squares. Charm packs work perfectly for this! Or dig into your stash to find some 5 inch squares to use. If you prefer to have your light colored fabric to blend as a background (see below), you will need 1/2 yard of fabric cut into twenty 5 inch squares.
