Designed by Heather Long of Coffee and Quilts for Moda Fabrics, the finished Pocketed Table Runner measures approx. 9 inches x 36 inches. The tutorial also includes instructions for matching coasters.
The table runner is made from pre-cut “charms”. Charm packs are collections of 5″ x 5″ squares of fabric produced by Moda Fabrics. The popularity of Charm Packs stem from the fact they are affordable, easy to use, and a size commonly used in quilting. Other manufacturers sell similar packs using various names.
The great thing about buying the charm packs is that all the fabrics coordinate with each other. And, with so many color choices, you are sure to find something to match your decor or the season! Make several for quick and easy gift giving.
If you are going to use the runner as a hot pad, be sure your batting is NOT polyester. Cotton batting and insulated batting combine to keep the heat out!
To make the pocketed table runner, you will need the following supplies:
- 1 Charm Pack (see note)
- 3/8 yards backing fabric
- 1/2 yards binding & pocket fabric
- cotton batting: 13.5″ x 42″ AND (2) 10″ squares
- 3/8 yards insulated batting, such as Insul-Brite (optional)
- Coordinating Thread
NOTE: You can also make the table runner from scraps or yardage. You will require 24 – 5 inch squares for the table runner.
